2 JWs Sent Registered Letters For "APOSTASY"

i was told that 2 "anointed" witnesses that had recently (on the night of the memorial) picketed in front of the kingdom hall were sent registered letters inviting them to a judicial committee meeting.

the husband had told the elders when they first called last week that the elders should call off the meeting because his wife had once again had major tremors and had to be hospitalized due to being sent the letter.

and that the elders should realize that they would surely get legal action against them if anything happened to his wife.

Even if you didn't win, the elders would still have to secure a lawyer for their defence and as we all know, lawyers fees are astronomical. Meaning that unless the elders were extremely wealthy, they could end up owing tens of thousands (if not hundreds of thousands) of dollars in legal fees.

As I pointed out though, the Society will be there with their posse of Bethel lawyers. It won't be the elder footing the bill. The last thing they need is someone to successfully sue either the elders or the org over a DFing. It would set far too dangerous a precedent.

Best thing to do would be to show up at the Inquisition hearing with a lawyer and a reporter or two. Make sure we all get copies of the pictures/videos.

Although I am curious, all this talk about "threatening" the elders with a lawsuit against them personally... is there a shred of evidence that this would be successful? My guess is that (unless the elder did something really stupid), A) the Society will go to bat for the elder, and B) the lawsuit will fail.

AMIGA rocks!!!!!!

I was a die-hard Amiga fanatic for years, back when Mac's were still monochrome-only and PC's were stuck in DOS with its single-tasking, 640k-limited EGA graphics, The Amiga's were cranking out stereo sound, with awesome graphics and a lean mean pre-emptive multitasking OS that worked from the GUI or the command line. Of course the company behind the Amiga were truly and completely clueless, had no idea what to do with a machine that was clearly ahead of its time.

I still have my 1200, sitting in the closet, unused for years but never forgotten.

The only thing that interests me is why they were recognized as still being a NGO member in Georgia at least a year after they resigned..get it? Either Georgia is lying..or the WTBTS signed up again..and I don't think they did as they are no longer listed under NGO's

You still don't get it. They are not an "NGO Member", they are an "NGO". The WT being an NGO is not a problem, the Watchtower being recognized as an NGO by Georgia is not a problem. They are an NGO. a Non-Governmental-Organization, always have been, always will be.

The question is, are they registered with the UN and its DPI as a NGO? The answer is NO. They no longer are affiliated with the UN as a registered NGO. They left back in 2001, we all know why.

So, to recap, Georgia is not lying, and the Society has not renewed their relationship with the UN.

As I said, nothing here to see...

As Elsewhere and Jeffro have pointed out, this has nothing to do with the WT joining the UN back in the 90's.

Why should Kingdom Hall sales proceeds go to the Watchtower?

suppose a whole congregation decides it has had enough of the watchtower.

suppose also that they have paid for their own kingdom hall and the mortgage is paid off in full.. why should they not be free to rename the kh to some other name, or, if they want to, sell it and keep the money?.

legally, why should the watchtower think it has a claim on the kingdom hall property?

First of all VM, your opening question is based on an erroneous assumption that refuses to die among some apostates.

Regardless of that, yes, back in the 80's an entire congregation in Texas broke away, and yes they took the Kingdom Hall with them. I'm sure the Society was not happy about it, but they are limited by the fact that it has become increasingly important for them to maintain the legal fiction that there is no connection between the org and the congregations. If the Society had the title to each Kingdom Hall, it would be obvious who was in charge. That would be a major liability to them when they are being faced with lawsuits left and right.

And really, the odds of an entire congregation going apostate, are pretty slim.

JWs required to report medical information to elders

there was an article, i believe in the awake!, that talks about a hypothetical medical worker who in a hypothetical situation comes to find out that a jw has accepted a medical procedure that is not accepted by the wts.

this hypothetical worker must decide where or not she will report the hypothetical violation to the elders.

does anyone recall where i can find this article?

Another way to fleece the flock

yes we all heard about the $8 million dollar co's health and car payment that the congregations are to pay.

how about the yearly (or monthly) insurance premium that must be payed by the congregation to, you guessed it, the wtbts.

the congregation pays to build the kh.

Hands the title to the Society. Pays the loan to the society, pays the interest to the society, pays for maintenance and repair costs and pays the insurance premium for a building they don't even own.

Ok, why does this idea refuse to go away? The Society does not have ownership of the local Kingdom Halls, yet this assertion pops up about every other week on this board. Here in the U.S. anyway, each congregation has a local corporation that owns the Kingdom Hall.

That, and the one about that not everyone on the GB is of the "anointed" anymore. Sheesh...

Boring talks - elders not invited again

I thought I'd heard that the visiting speaker was supposed to get counseled on his talk afterwards, privately by one of the loca lelders. Usually it never happened, but I thought that was how it worked.
